Successful Composite Summer Academy 2011 |
The Composite Summer Academy organized by CADFEM CH, IKT institute of FHNW and EVEN AG was a great success. The eleven attendees got an overview about manufacturing and analysis of composite structures. Within a week they designed their own composite beam which was manufactured and tested in the lab. The goal was to optimize the strength of the beam at minimum weight. Finally the measurements and FEM results were compared and discussed critically.

Optimization of a Windturbine Blade |

EVEN has profound experiences in the field of composite design and numerical optimization. Especially for composite structures where the number of parameters can increase to more than several hundreds, numerical efficient algorithms are quite important.
An effective design loop including CAD, laminate design, optimization and the delivery of manufacturing data is described in the latest Lightweight Design magazine (6/11). The entire design concept and remarkable results are described and illustrated. Thanks to the efficient CAE concept, EVEN's software tools OpLyX (optimization platform) and ACP (Ansys Composite Pre- and Post-Processor), the blade weight could be reduced by more than 10% at equal stiffness and strength.

Composite Summer Academy 2011 |
CADEFM CH and Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz FHNW arrange the 2nd Composite Summer Academy taking place at Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz in Windisch. The seminar from July 18 - 22 2011 covers these topics:
- Laminate theory
- Construction
- Simulation with ANSYS Composite PrepPost
- Testing
- Comparison of test and FE simulation results
René Roos from EVEN will be responsible for the theory and Finite Element analysis (FEA). First the basics of the Classical Laminate Theory and FEA are discussed. In addition ANSYS Composite PrepPost is introduced to evaluate the stiffness and strength of the construction.
Detailed information and the registration form can be found here. |
