Core competencies of EVEN - Evolutionary Engineering AG 

Originally the core competencies of EVEN are in optimization strategies and their application to highly heterogeneous optimization problems. This reflects the roots of the company originating from the Center of Structure Technologies.

However in recent years EVEN built up leading edge knowledge in further areas as well. The actual core competencies of EVEN can be summarized as follows:

Optimization Algorithms

The Algorithms basically developed during our PhD thesis are still developed further. Just recently we succeeded to treat an optimization problem consisting of 5000 floating point variables successfully with Evolutionary Algorithms. All the knowledge about optimization technology is reflected in custom-specific solutions as well as in the genera-purpose optimization framework OpLyX

Finite Element Methods

No optimization can yield to reasonable results when the analysis software does not perform accurately. Therefore a profound knowledge of FEM methods is crucial for us. We even developed our own FEM-codes (FELyX – Finite Element Library eXperiment) for special purposes and are able to implement new physical processes when needed.

CAD Technology

To efficiently handle structures to be optimized, a good knowledge of associative parametric CAD-methods is necessary. We have long experience in this field with CATIA V5 and are able to even implement additional features natively into CATIA V5 when necessary.

Fluid-Structure-Interaction

The coupling between structural FEM-codes and CFD-codes allows to iteratively find the solution of fluid imposed loads to structures. We have developed the software CoLyX to automatically handle the coupling between all common FEM (e.g. Ansys, Nastran, Abaqus) and CFD (e.g. Fluent, Star-CD, CFX).

Composite Failure Analysis

In many engineering projects EVEN dealt with composite structures. Namely in the case of composite-optimization the standard post-processing features of the industry-standard FE-tools were not suited to provide an easy and automated evaluation of the performance of composite structures. In that context EVEN developed a steadily growing library of composite post-processing and failure-analysis tools. Equipped with a GUI EVEN finally released these tools as the ComPoLyX software. 

Engineering Software Development

Good skills in scientific programming and engineering software development that are essential to implement leading edge technologies efficiently. We implemented all our software ourselves and we actively work on several open-source project as well.
